From Ricardo Darín to Marc Stanley and River Plate, the 20 personalities and institutions awarded at the Anne Frank Awards
Within the framework of the 15 years that the Anne Frank Argentina Center for Latin America (CAFA) a gala at the San Martín theaterin which the entity delivered around twenty awards to various personalities and institutions of Argentine culture, business and politics on the occasion of their contributions to the coexistence in diversity and inclusionraising awareness of violence and discrimination and defending Human Rights.
The ceremony also commemorated this Monday the interactive museum anniversary -which was renovated for the occasion- and the presence of the organization – a member of the Ann Frank House of the Netherlands – in our country.
The date of this year’s rally also has an extra meaningwhich was to commemorate the 95th anniversary of the birth of Anne Frank in Frankfurt, Germany, the girl who became immortal for writing an intimate diary, a cultural emblem of the Nazi persecution of the Jewish community in much of Western and Central Europe.
For the same reason, CAFA also remodeled the museum it manages in the neighborhood of Coghlan, with the inclusion of original Anne Frank objects that were brought from Europe for permanent display. The anniversary of Anne Frank’s birth was declared in 2012 “Day of adolescents and young people for social inclusion and coexistence against all forms of violence and discrimination.”
Among the personalities and institutions recognized this Monday with the Anne Frank Prize were Carlotto’s Stele(president of Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo), Monica Dawidowicz (Holocaust survivor), Ricardo Darin (actor), Mark Stanley (United States ambassador in Buenos Aires), the businessman Eduardo Eurnekianthe club River Platethe Dutch embassy in Argentina or the Province of Santiago del Estero.
In total, they delivered twenty distinctionseach with a different reason but with the same objective: to celebrate the collaboration with the legacy of Anne Frank and in matters related to the efforts against violence and discrimination.
With an opening in the words of the director of CAFA, Héctor Shalom, and the head of the Buenos Aires Government Jorge Macrithe Anne Frank Prize was also awarded from young people to young people.
The first prize went to the project “Noise!!! What do girls and boys think about the care they receive?”, from the group Guía Egreso from Argentina, and the second was for Brigadas Educativas San Juan, with a focus on access to education.
The 20 distinctions in the Anne Frank Awards

The president of the Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo received her award from Shalom “for her fight for Memory, Truth and Justice.” While Macri was in charge of awarding the mention to the Holocaust survivor “for her commitment to transmitting the memory of the Shoá, her testimonies, the legacy of Anne Frank and the pedagogy of hope.”
Ricardo Darin He was decorated for his participation in the film “Argentina, 1985”, by Santiago Miter and Mariano Llinás, with the purpose of disseminating the iconic Trial of the Military Juntas. Jorge Telerman, director of the Teatro Colón, was the one who presented the award to the actor. Then it was the turn of Eduardo Eurnekianpresident of Corporación América, who received his award – from the hands of Amador Sánchez Rico – for his commitment to the memory of the Armenian genocide, the Holocaust and the recognition of the righteous among nations.
Marcelo Mindlin, president of the Holocaust Museum of Buenos Aires and businessman of Pampa Energía, was awarded due to his contribution to the memory of the Holocaust. Later, he also gave a mention to Marc Stanley, ambassador of the United States in Argentina and partner of the headquarters of the Anne Frank Museum in his native country, for his commitment to disseminating the memory of the Holocaust in both countries, an award presented by businessman Gabriel Hochbaum.
Maria Luisa Storaniformer deputy, parliamentarian of Mercosur and vice president of the Radical Civic Union was mentioned for having been the promoter of law 26,809, which established the “Day of adolescents and young people for social inclusion and coexistence against all forms of violence and discrimination ” in commemoration of the birth of Anne Frank.
In turn, the Buenos Aires legislator received his awards Omar Abboudthe rabbi Silvina Chemen -from the Isaac Abarbanel University-, Sabine Gimbrere -official of the international office of the city of Amsterdam- the anti-trafficking prosecutor Alejandra Mánganothe journalist Romina Manguelthe judge of the Buenos Aires Supreme Court Sergio Torres and the Undersecretary of Human Rights of the City, Pamela Malewicz.
After the personalities, it was the turn of the institutions. The club River Plate received, in the hands of its president, Jorge Brito, the award for being an institution with a commitment to educational and solidarity projects and to the dissemination of Anne Frank’s legacy.
Then the award was given to the Embassy of the Netherlands in Argentina for the permanent contribution to the dissemination of Anne Frank’s legacy in our country through diplomatic exchange. Gerardo Zamora, governor of Santiago del Esteroreceived recognition from his province for promoting a provincial educational project on the transmission of the legacy of the German teenager and her struggle.
The play was also awarded The Tree Window of Zoe Hochbaum, Gustavo Gersberg and Nicolás Gil Lavedra and the portal Infobae, award received by its founder and CEO, Daniel Hadad, from Ricardo Gil Lavedra.
Finally, a special mention was given to Mauricio Szulmanwho gave the house in the Coghlan neighborhood, formerly known as Hilda’s House, so that the headquarters of the Anne Frank museum in Buenos Aires could be installed there.
