“I gained 24 years of life expectancy by adopting these 8 simple lifestyle habits”

A study from the American Society for Nutrition found that adopting eight specific lifestyle habits could add up to 24 years to your life.

To live longer, while preserving your health, it is often advisable to review your lifestyle by adopting healthier habits on a daily basis. While this is easy to say, in reality, it is sometimes difficult to keep these resolutions that nevertheless allow us to increase our longevity. But which ones should we focus on the most? According to a study presented at the annual meeting of the American Society for Nutrition in Boston relayed by Why Doctor?there would be very precisely eight “well-being” habits which should be particularly taken into account if we wish to increase life expectancy.

How to gain 24 years of life expectancy?

A theory that is the result of the analysis of the medical records of 719,147 American veterans aged 40 to 99. When these good practices are established before the age of 40, they would allow men to live up to 24 years longer, and women, 21 years longer.

“We were really surprised by how beneficial adopting just one, two, three habits out of the eight lifestyle factors could be. Our research suggests that healthy living is important for both public health and personal well-being. The earlier the better, but even if you make changes in your 40s or 60s, it’s still beneficial, as our study results show.” analyzes Xuan-Mai T. Nguyen. These eight habits that can improve life expectancy consist of:

  • be physically active
  • NO SMOKING
  • better manage your stress
  • maintain a good diet
  • not to consume alcohol excessively on a regular basis
  • have good sleep hygiene
  • have positive social relationships
  • not develop opioid addiction
