I Was at New York Fashion Week and Here’s Everything You Need to Know

A look back at the memorable shows, iconic looks and unmissable moments that punctuated American Fashion Week.

After a week of running the catwalks in the four corners of the Big Apple, 5,875 photos later, $4 pizza slices as far as the eye can see and a quick pilgrimage to the filming locations of Gossip Girl… It’s time to take stock of the New York Fashion Week : less popular in recent years, American Fashion Week has nevertheless been making a strong comeback in the fashion world for several seasons. Indeed, particularly rich in high-flying shows, five-star front rows and supermodel dressing rooms, it has nothing to envy other capitals. Also political, this week, hammered home one and the same message in each of its collections: “This is America”. A call for unity and fraternity that is essential in the run-up to the 2025 presidential elections. From Alaïa to Ralph Lauren, including Khaite, Cos and Tory Burch… A look back at the eight shows that you shouldn’t have missed from this American-style fashion marathon.

Alaïa’s return to New York

42 years after Azzedine Alaïa’s New York fashion show, Pieter Mulier follows in the legendary designer’s footsteps and flies to the Big Apple to present his new collection. The French highlight of this American fashion week, the Alaïa fall/winter 2025 show was also the very first to be held within the walls of the famous Guggenheim Museum. In the middle of this architectural gem where contemporary art reigns supreme, the silhouettes that parade sketch an equally sculptural collection: oscillating between their work-of-art appearance and their relaxed inflections, the pieces play with volumes, curves, spirals and beautifully explore the unbreakable link between couture and art.

COS 2 in 1 Show

It was in a disused factory in the port of Brooklyn that the double COS show was held: in the middle of the minimalist labyrinth erected for the occasion, the English label delivered a show in two parts. The first, dedicated to its main line, gave pride of place to pieces inspired by nature and modernity, while the second, where the COS Atelier collection was paraded, was devoted to movement and the elegance of dance through sophisticated drapery.

Tory Burch’s revisited sportswear

It was at Domino’s Sugar, a legendary former sugar refinery in the heart of Brooklyn (which has just been freshly renovated), that the Tory Burch spring/summer 2025 show was held. In front of an audience of inspiring female celebrities, the famous American designer delivered a collection with sportswear influences, worn by a cabin of supermodels – from Alex Consani to Irina Shayk, Vittoria Ceretti and (surprise), Alexa Chung), always imbued with her signature modern and desirable sophistication.

Willy Chavaria’s inclusive and committed fashion

The new darling of the fashion industry, the 57-year-old Latino designer Willy Chavarria, once again created a stir by presenting “América”, his new spring-summer 2025 collection, an ode to American fashion. If his mixed and inclusive silhouettes are still omnipresent to convey his committed fashion message, his unprecedented collaboration with Adidas also has something to do with it: between streetwear and regency, it shook up the codes of sport (and gender) in a palette of neon colors.

Coach’s cool and golden youth

It was under a bright blue sky that Coach unveiled its SS25 show, on the legendary New York High Line: in the front row and on the catwalk, its cool kids were gathered, proudly sporting their neo-school uniforms, composed of I Love NY t-shirts, maxi clutches in regressive shapes (from hearts to dinosaurs), scribbled-on dadame bags, micro skirts, satin dresses and well-cut blazers.

The casual chic of Proenza Schouler

A pioneer in American chic, Proenza Schouler delivered a spring-summer 2025 collection that lived up to its fashion reputation. In a maze of fringes, chic stripes and expertly mastered colours, the design duo at the head of the New York label imagined the wardrobe of the ultimate city girl, where each of the pieces and details calls for relaxed sophistication.

Khaite’s gentle turnaround

Another popular label among fashionable girls, Khaite introduced the silhouettes that will add salt and lightness to our spring-summer 2025 wardrobe. From here to there, the vaporous pieces all in transparency, the accessories with high statement potential, the sculptural knit or even the high leather and the well-cut jackets, the idea is making its way: it’s a new era, softer, but just as empowering as the previous season.

Ralph Lauren’s Hamptons Weekend

This season, Ralph Lauren is moving away from the hustle and bustle of the Big Apple and taking a summer break in the Hamptons. The designer’s “sanctuary” for over fifty years, this upscale haven of peace is also a true fashion HQ where luxury is used to relax. In a maze of white, blue and sand (a color palette that calls to mind vacations), Ralph Lauren presents his ultimate summer wardrobe, imbued with a touch of nostalgia, American flags and lots of sea spray.
