Strong repudiation from the “Ni una menos” collective to Independiente Rivadavia de Mendoza for the possible arrival of Sebastián Villa

Sebastian Villa would return to Argentine football after having signed a contract with Independent Rivadavia de Mendozaas reported this Monday by the president of the club, Daniel Vila, and generated controversy in the province after the organization that fights against violence against women, the collective “Not one less”shared a statement with a strong repudiation of the club’s decision to incorporate the Colombian striker.

The former Boca was sentenced to two years and one month in prison for gender violence and sexual abuse against his former partner, Daniela Cortés. The Colombian was not imprisoned because the sentence is releaseable. In addition, the soccer player has a second case open for “sexual abuse with carnal access” to the detriment of Rocío Tamara Doldan, 27 years old, which contemplates a sentence of 15 years in prison. The complainant had already reached a financial agreement with Villa, but the prosecutor’s office did not accept the agreement and although the process continues, Doldán warned that she would refuse to testify.

Those who raised their voice against the possible hiring of Villa in Independiente Rivadavia were the members of the women’s collective “Ni Una Menos”, at its headquarters in Mendozawho repudiated the club’s decision through a statement.

“The statements of the leader Vila, who advocate a ‘second chance’ for Villa, They ignore the seriousness of gender violence. We believe in rehabilitation, but this must include true reflection and repair of the damage caused, aspects that are not seen in this case,” the statement states.

Businessman Daniel Vila had declared that “(Villa) has a sentence of two years and one month, which he will complete next year, and in the meantime he is on parole. Anyone has the right to a second chance if they made a mistake.. We are talking about a person with a firm conviction. “Anyone can make a mistake and has the right to a second chance.”

However, from Ni Una Menos they argued that “Villa’s incorporation sends the wrong message to the community, especially victims of gender violence. “We urge Independiente Rivadavia to reconsider this decision and demonstrate a real commitment to the fight against gender violence.”

The statement concludes with a reminder that “the eradication of this violence is everyone’s responsibility.”
