We ate one of the best Caesar salads in Paris in the 14th arrondissement

In this newly opened restaurant in the 14th arrondissement, a reinterpreted Caesar salad that absolutely ticks all the boxes.

In the 14th arrondissement, cool spots are rare. Fortunately, new sexy and trendy restaurants are coming to revive this corner of Paris, somewhat unloved. Enough to make us want to make the trip. Among them, there is Capsule a really cool restaurant that wisely settled, just before the start of summer 2024, in a very quiet street located opposite the Cochin hospital. Behind this new address that inevitably shakes up the neighborhood, a trio of friends who are not short of ideas. Their desire? To create a “a capsule of happiness and sweetness in which to share their love of the product, both on the plate and in the glass, to highlight our beautiful French terroir” all without pretension, with sympathy, humility and relaxation. Everything we love.

Capsule, finally a cool restaurant in the 14th arrondissement?

Inspired by its proximity to the Paris Observatory, the restaurant has a space capsule decor, designed by architect Paul de Couden hove. The style is refined, clean and natural. The kitchen opens onto the dining room, thanks to two large, rounded eyelets, allowing us to admire the cooks in action. The walls are dressed in beige and a pastel pistachio green that compliment the bar’s green Pyrenees marble cladding. The green leather benches contrast with the wooden bistro tables and chairs. Simplicity and elegance. Outside, there are two terraces where it’s nice to sit when the sun is out.

And on the plates? A cuisine with gastronomic accents that does not compromise on value for money. The dishes prepared by chef Mickael Falotte are intended to be readable and tempting. The good products are celebrated with precision and without frills. On the menu, which is very accessible given the quality, proposals that sometimes dare to make unexpected combinations, but always mastered, with real work around edible flowers, herbs and microgreens. Soft-boiled egg and creamy celeriac with truffle oil; aubergine caviar tartlet, artichoke pepper and young amaranth shoots or even a roasted blue-legged chicken served with a hazelnut butter purée and a full-bodied jus…

A Caesar salad that will be remembered for a long time

But also and above all one of the best Caesar salads in Paris. Yes, we dare to say it and believe us, we have ordered Caesar salads more than once at the restaurant. We had a real crush on this cleverly executed reinterpretation of this classic that we love so much. It is presented at the table like we have never seen it before. The heart of romaine and its absolutely impeccable Caesar-style seasoning is hidden under a deluge of finely grated parmesan, crispy bacon, grated egg yolk, sesame seeds and fresh herbs. All topped with a soft-boiled egg cooked to perfection. To put it simply: it is to die for. As for the glass, wine lovers will not be disappointed, since the menu, although short, is intended to be demanding, with only French grape varieties (natural or not), for all tastes. To top it all off, the desserts are also delicious. If we couldn’t resist the superb seasonal strawberry pavlova, rumor has it that the Paris-Brest is to die for.
